All Aboard, the event!

Ahoy!

Hey everybody, hope you enjoyed the show yesterday! Rainy sundays aren't
good for any sort of launches, but the turn out was still fantastic and super fun! Here are
shots from the show. If you haven't been, I suggest you go. Wink wink, nudge nudge.

Billy Kidd.

A bit of the crowd. There was no seats left downstairs it was so busy!

The awesome people who attended the show.

DOSS BLOCKOS! We ran out of DB's beer in under two hours, I think
that's a record... Mmm, Doss Blockos... Unfortunately the boys couldn't come
down to paint at the show. For what it's worth, we thought your brew was delicious!

Bar. I forgot to give them tips. Oops. When I go back in I will, because
honestly, all the employees were incredibly nice, welcoming and helpful.
If I could exhibit there all the time I would. I love Grumpy's Green!

The legends that were dancing to The Isenbergs! I love you two!

The crowd, part two!

Some of the artists.

More soon!
Cheers; Amz.

Photography Update: Tom Wilson

Ahoy!

Tom Wilson has been busy with some kitschy photography the last few days,
and has completed photographing his series of plasticine men... dinosaur.

Here's a little peek at his models:

I (Amz) made Yellow-Man. I couldn't help myself!

They tote tiny skateboards and get up to mischief! Tom has always been a fan
of claymation and incorporated this into his pieces. I must say, the photos are
pretty damn sweet!

That's all for now. See you soon,

Amz.

BEAT you are a neat bunch of nifty noodles.

How's y'all? Looking forward to the show, I hope, I certainly am.
Here are a couple of WIP shots of Taras Semenenko's board and
Scat (Matt Scariot)'s board! Hope you dig...

Here's Taras' board...

Dry brushing, stenciling and a bit of effort goes a long way.

Here's what Scat's been up to, an accompanying piece to frame
the board~ I love it, how about you?

That's all for now, more soon! I have been upto a second
board that is almost photograph-able. Haha.

Also, exciting news! Our live painting is going to be done by
the artist/s of DOSS BLOCKOS! Come down in the avo and check them
out! Here's a video of what they're about, and their skills...

Board Updates:

AHOY!

Another quickie! Second one today... c;

Fabian Hernandez's lineart for his Quetzalcoatl board.
Sorry about the quality, it was an impromptu photo-shoot
in his boudoir whilst we were having birthday drinks.

Amz Kelso's completed board, just a little snippit
to leave you wanting more of the
gold-paint and acrylic-gemmed goodness.
More pics up on her blog TWINKLE.

Stephanie Kelso's pretty turquoise deck,
donated by our friend Frances,
is being transformed into a battleground of
gun-slingin' proportions.

More updates soon!

Board Updates, Keen on Keane's Cuts!

Ahoy!

Behold the talent of Shannon Keane, master wood-cutter
and illustratory genius:

You can tell this is going to be one of the most innovative pieces
at our show.  The sheer amount of cutting and sanding is ridiculous,
and if you check out his blog you will see that he is not a shabby
painter either, (unlike myself). Can't wait to see it up at the show!

That's about all for now, more updates soon,
exciting sponsorship and promotional things are happening,
including cheap beer, graffiti artists, printing discounts and magazines.

Cheers,

Amz.

Wip 2, and Artist Announcements ROUND 3!

Hey all! Proud to announce the final lot of artists
for the show! Just a few more primary and secondary artists I've yet
to announce on the blog (their names are on our fb event, unfortunately
I don't have sample pictures for all of them) and some board updates!

So here we go...

Fine arts student at ACU and aspiring set designer,
(This link is old, but at least you get a sampler!)

The 3d modelling, concept designing powerhosue,

Studying a BA at RMIT, talented emerging photographer,
skater and (our) event photographer,

Along with...

Writer and casual photographer, TOM WILSON.

Fine arts student at ACU, ELEANOR JOSE.

Local Artist MATT SCARIOT.

And now, some board updates...

Kitty Poduska has been working hard, here is one of two
of her boards that will be featured at Grumpy's:

Here is another update from Fabian Hernandez, he has
some lineart done up and will soon be rendered with Posca markers:

Last but not least the very busy, Lachlan Millard, has yet to do
much other than sand his board... regardless, you know whatever
he does is going to be neat as:

And that's about all right now. More photos will be up soon, until
then check out the newly announce artists' blogs and have a looksee
at the talented bunches of people we have in our show.

See you @ Grumpy's in just a few weeks!

WIP Reports One:

Ahoy!

Hey Team, things have been a little
slow on the blog but here's a pick me up!
I have some photos of processes sent
to us by just a one other artist, it's not much
just yet but it will be soon, I have the others
flashing cameras away at their boards.

For now, here's just a sample of what
have been upto....

Sanded!

Line-Art-ed!

Painting!

Painted!

And that was six hours of work. Another six and
we will have something worth exhibiting.
That was the board of Amz Kelso.

Here's the minimalist work of Fabian Hernandez:

Pre-Sanding

Post-Painting

I know it's not much but he has been a busy bee,
so we should forgive him and not break his kneecaps
when he comes to my place for pizza this Friday.

Another update will happen in the next few days,
as well as a potential artist announcement.

Stay Tuned~

Amz.

Artists ROUND 2 and sanding boards!

Ahoy!

Welcome to the Artist Announcement ROUND TWO!
Here are a couple more artists who'll be appearing in the April
2011 All Aboard show. They are super talented artists and
very dear friends:

A mural-painting, dvd-sorting machine, he is incredibly talented
with a spraycan and markers, the illustrator and street artist...

SHANNON KEANE

An enigma of a male, why is he so damned beautiful but
not a model!? Maybe it's because he is just too good at painting
fine art and sketching in biro. The picture-perfect painter...

TARAS SEMENENKO

WORK IT BOYS!

In other news, I am minus three boards as I passed a couple
decks onto Kitty Poduska and Shannon Keane. I sanded
those babies back and prepped them to be painted on! Just
goes to show a little bit of elbow grease goes a long way,
here's me with my new best friend, the belt sander.

That was before I found the wrench to take the wheels off,
life was a lot harder in that brief 15m of sanding.
Thank goodness my Dad came to the rescue and I was finally
able to sand it properly! Here are a couple of before and after
shots of the boards...

We went to town.

My little dog refused to leave the shot. She wanted to
feel involved, I think. I tried to teach her how to skate but
I'm not too good of a teacher myself so I don't think she learnt
much. I think she needs lessons... anyone want to offer their skills?

Keep tuned to this space as we'll shortly be announcing
the live bands that will be playing in our creative extravaganza!
Our partners CLF have been wonderfully helpful in sourcing
the most incredibly people to be a part of ALL ABOARD's live music.
Anyway, more updates later! I have boards to source and sand,
sponsors to ring, emails to send and designing to do!

All the best... Stay classy, planet Earth.

Announce that Artist!

Hello Crew!

Just an update on the progress so far...
we aren't able to announce ALL the artists yet, but
I can give you a taste of who'll be on board!
They are not only some of my favourite people,
but they're also some of the most talented emerging
artists in Melbourne today...

Me, Myself, and I. Curator and Digital Illustrator...

He has created some of the trippiest walk cycles in animation history
whilst staying one of NMIT's fave lecturers. He is an all round neat guy...

He tags everything that moves, this digital and traditional artist is
soon to become your favourite Chilean export...

An illustration powerhouse, rocking digital, traditional and 3-dimensional
art, she is the neatest lady I know and my partner in crime...

With his bold and adorable style, this Bairnsdale illustrator is sure
to knock your fluffy, alpaca socks off. Just don't make him mad, he'll hulk out...

AWWW SHIT! Graff, traditional and digital art?! It could only be...

More artists will be announced soon,
so keep on keepin' on... checkin'!

In other news we are short of boards (boo!) so get off
your giant porpoise and help us out! You can contact
AmittyStudios@gmail.com if you have a board to donate,
your name will go on our thank you list and in our hearts.
Also, check out that neat poll just to the left on this post!
We are having an 100 day poll to ask YOU what you want to
see us do next! Click on whatever suits you taste.

I'm off to sand decks with a belt sander. Neat!

ABOUT AMITTY STUDIOS...

Hello.
Hi.

What's this blog about?
This is the new space for Melbourne's own Amitty Studios!

Neat! But what is Amitty Studios?
Well, I'll tell you a little bit about us. It all started with two ladies meeting in an Illustration course in 2009. Their names were Amz and Kitty, and they decided that they were friends during orientation (really, that's how it happened. We just decided!). Little did Amz and Kitty know that they would soon become best friends, and become intensely dedicated to their work and the work that they did together. Soon, they decided that the only way to trap the other into staying friends forever was to create a Studio together, and after the name Amitty was created, there was little holding them back. Amz and Kitty are dedicated to creating and curating exhibitions all over Melbourne, as any emerging artist would know the cost of Gallery hire alone can easily skyrocket upto $1000, so what we hope to achieve is group shows without the ridiculous costs. We love coming up with new ideas for exhibitions and including all our friends, we source venues, create the promotional work, source sponsors and enlist bands! That's right, just two ladies doing all of that! It is a labor of love, and luckily we have some amazing friends who are always willing to help us out and cut costs to create a feasible show that everyone can enjoy around some of Melbourne's greatest hotspots.

So, what are you planning now?
We're currently organizing a show hosted by Grumpy's Green, (125 Smith Street, Carlton), that is going to feature some local artists and photographers. We open on April 10th 2011 and are featuring bright, poppy, hand-painted skateboards.  They will be for sale throughoutthe month of April. We're also getting some  wonderful bands together to come play throughout the afternoon and evening.  We will be announcing them closer to the opening date. There will be live painting in the afternoon before all the artists  are too trashed to paint anything.

I want in!!
Hold your Unicorns! All the spots for our April shows are booked out, however contact AmittyStudios@gmail.com, we are always having callouts for artists. We love to network, and to put you in touch with great artists who can help you out. In short, email us, join our mailing list and cross your fingers! If you are a band or musician, photographer, illustrator, fine artists, promoter, animator, sculptor, designer... and so on, join up!!
